Webpage

Sun Feb 18, 2007, 10:34 PM
So now that I'm moved out of my parents basement and settling into my new pad, I've been turning my thoughts to my next goal in life, which I think is going to be furthering my art career. I want to keep it mostly as a hobby, but if it can be a hobby that nets me a little money, bonus, right? I want to try to get myself known in my own home town - see if I can peddle some of my work in comic and gaming dens around town, and perhaps online as well, this being the information age and all. A big part of this process is getting a web page together to showcase my artwork.

D.A. is a nice community, but it doesn't do me any good when I'm trying to show a non-D.A. member anything I made that has a "mature content" flag on it, and for me, that's a lot of stuff. Also, my own page I can design with my own choice of colours and layouts and all that.

I had a friend of mine lined up to make the website, but we got to squabbling over the price - basically I'm a cheap bastard and as such, it's in my nature to think she's asking too much, and it's in her nature to get offended by my asking her to sell herself short on this. She's probably one of the 3 people in the world who will actually read this, so she needs to know that I'm really trying not to paint her as a villan in this. I'm just stating the facts. She's a skilled web designer, and that takes a lot of time and effort to learn, and some serious skill to be good at. Serious skill that I'm just not willing to pay for.

So I said, "Fuck it, I'll do it myself". I have Adobe GoLive - a web page design program that came bundled with my student edition Adobe CS, I've been bungling my way through learning how that works. I've set up a rudimentary webpage with some sculpture and sketchbook drawings posted at this location [link]
I'll be working on graphics and adding content over the next few weeks and probably eventually getting a proper domain name and some good web hosting. It's going to be a work in progress getting worked on when I have the time, desire, and patience to do any work on it.

Once my friend told me that he had found Jesus. I thought to myself, "Woo-Hoo! We're rich!" It turns out he meant something different.

Well, it's not fancy, but I think I'll be able to do this. Any friendly-like advice and criticism you might have to offer would be welcome.
