Fighting off the Curse of the Goat "Lover&quo

Sun Apr 26, 2009, 9:10 AM
It's probably been more than a year now since I first agreed to sculpt a replica of Pan and the Nanny Goat for a friend of mine. You've never heard of Pan and the Nanny Goat? Do a google seach for Pan and goat sculpture and it's the first thing that comes up. Go on, do it... I'll wait.

Yeah, so, now that you have that image burnt into your retinas, picture reproducing every intimate detail of that work in Sculpey clay. I've seen this thing from EVERY possible angle. And this thing has been sitting unfinished on my desk for the better part of a year. I just can't bring myself to work on it. I'll do a little bit here and there, and then I'll look back and say "Hey, that looks pretty good" and then I'll say "But it's still a sculpture of a dude fucking a goat" and then I work on something with nice human boobies and forget about the damn goat fucker sculpture for another few months.

Every time I see this friend of mine who commissioned the work, I feel bad because I said I would do this for him and I like to stay true to my word. So I try to force myself to work on it. I set some pictures of the original as my computer desk top background and said "I won't change this until the work is finished". Well, my computer died and I bought a new one with a new desktop and I shelfed the goat fucker sculpture for another few months.

Well I've set a deadline (which I may or may not make) to finish this thing. It's really the only way to break the curse and get back to sculpting subject matter that I really like, without the burning guilt of not having this done and by association, just the thought of a dude fucking a goat.
